NCVLI’s Responding to Online Fraud Project and the National Alliance of Victims’ Rights Attorneys (NAVRA) are facilitating a three-part webinar series entitled Online Fraud and Identity Theft: The Hurdles Victims Face to Protecting their Rights and the Tools Available to Overcome Them. The trainings are open exclusively to NAVRA members.

The third part of the series, Identity Theft: Best Practices in Identifying and Meeting the Legal and Support Needs of Victims, will be presented on Thursday, February 24th by Lisa Weintraub Schifferle, JD, Attorney for the Division of Privacy and Identity Protection of the Federal Trade Commission; Paula Pierce, JD, Managing Attorney of Texas Legal Services Hotline Programs; and Russell Butler, JD, Executive Director of the Maryland Crime Victims’ Resource Center, Inc.

The third webinar in the series is designed to provide victim law practitioners and advocates with the tools for identifying and meeting the unique needs of victims of identity theft.  The overview will include a discussion of the effect of these crimes on victims, barriers faced by victims in accessing legal and support services, available services to support victims in recovery, common victims’ rights issues that arise in these cases, and best practices in meeting the legal and support needs of victims of identity theft.  The presentation will also include a discussion of the Federal Trade Commission’s new Guide for Assisting Identity Theft Victims - a manual for pro bono attorneys and advocates serving victims of identity theft.
