Victim Voice Before the Supreme Court
In our ongoing effort to ensure victims have a voice before the United States Supreme Court and to fight for full restitution for children who have been sexually exploited and filmed, NCVLI teamed up with the University of Pennsylvania Law School Supreme Court Clinic in late December to file an amicus curiae brief in support of a petition for review before the Supreme Court.
In the brief we point out that children who are sexually exploited and filmed suffer enduring harm each time perpetrators distribute or view the images of their abuse, and that these victims face substantial difficulties securing full restitution awards and collecting ordered restitution from defendants. As amicus we urged the Court to take up and decide the case in order to fully and finally resolve the issue so that victims can recover full restitution as Congress intended. We are awaiting a decision.
